Photoshop Tutorial, Dodge and Burn on a Grey Layer

What you’ll be creating,

Let's have a look how we can fill a layer with 50% gray, Tutorial in 4 easy steps, Time to complete 1:15 minutes.

Open your photo in Adobe Photoshop, This article is using CS6 but almost any version will work,

Steps

 1   Add a new layer by clicking on the Create a New Layer icon.
 2   Fill this layer with 50% Gray by going to the menu and selecting Edit / Fill.
 3   In the pull down menu, select 50% Gray and click on ok, And set the blending mode to "Overlay"

 4   On this layer, use the black and white colors with your brush to dodge and burn.

     -Painting with the color black will burn in portions of the image.
     -Painting with white will dodge and brighten the image ... And you're done!
